Characters of the book

Oliver Twist: Despite all the cruelty and bad treatments that surrounded him for most of his life, Oliver is a sweet and inocent guy that even when he faced serious maltreatment, he never lose his sense of morality or kindness.

Bad aspects:
  • Naive

Mrs. Mann: She runs the orphanage where Oliver grows up. She keeps for herself most of the money allotted by the parish for the care of the orphans and she physically abuses and half-starves the children in her care.

  • Selfish
  • Envious
  • Agressive
  • Careless
  • Grumpy



Mr. Bumble: The pompous and self-important official of a minor church. He monitors the  workhouse where Oliver is born. Though Mr. Bumble preaches Christian morality, he behaves without compassion toward the paupers under his care.

  • Self-important
  • Arrogant
  • Cynical    




Fagin: He is a very old man, with a villainous-looking and repulsive face. He takes homeless children and trains them as pick pockets for him. He is also a buyer of other people’s stolen goods.

  • Cruel
  • Dishonest
  • Nasty
  • Perverse
